If you have oily skin you know the struggle it is to keep your face looking matte and oil-free. You probably have tried various products/ tips and nothing has worked. I say this because I have been there and I have looked and continue to look for the best products to use for oily skin.

I am giving you the best tips for skincare and makeup for oily skin, products to avoid, and more.

So girly if you can relate to the struggle or any of the things I mentioned above keep on reading because like I mentioned these are life-changing tips.

1. Cleanse your face on a daily

I want to start off by giving you tips in the skincare field first. In order for your face to look and feel amazing you need to make sure you take care of it, and how do you take care of it? Well, it starts off with you cleaning your face daily with a cleanser. Choose a cleanser that has salicylic acid, is non-comedogenic, and has no fragrance. Salicylic acid is an ingredient that helps remove impurities and helps keep your face clean. Non-comedogenic is an ingredient that helps your pores from getting clogged, which is great for your pores. While the no fragrance is going to help avoid your face from getting irritated.

2. Moisturize

Wearing moisturizer to hydrate your face is another key ingredient to making sure your face doesn’t get oily. You’re probably asking yourself why would I need to apply moisturizer when my face is already oily? Trust me I’ve been there, done that! Even though you have oily skin your face still needs to be hydrated and moisturized so make sure to wear moisturizer daily. You want to avoid moisturizers that have oil in them because that will make your face oiler instead of hydrating it. Look for moisturizers that are meant specifically for oily skin and are water or gel-based. These moisturizers have a lightweight consistency and are going to feel refreshing, on the plus side they are recommended for oily skin.

3. Use a Toner

Using a toner is also going to help control the amount of oil your body produces. A toner is going to help exfoliate your skin, clear/ unclog pores and reduce any residual oils.  You want to look for products that are alcohol-free, unscented, and have witch hazel. Again unscented and alcohol-free products are going to help avoid your face from getting irritated. Witch hazel is also another ingredient to use if you have oily skin because it’s going to help control and remove excess oil.

4. Oily skin is Normal

The last tip would be to stop trying to get rid of your oily skin, it’s genetic. There are ways to help reduce the amount of oil your body produces but there’s no way to fully get rid of it. Understand that having oily skin is normal. It’s our body’s natural moisturizer, it is needed to protect our skin and hair. If you have oily skin you just need to make sure you use the right products to help control the oil. On the plus side having oily skin helps preserve your skin and you tend to have fewer wrinkles.

1. Prep

Make sure your face is clean ( free of any oils/dirt). You don’t want to apply products on top of your face otherwise you run the risk of your foundation getting cakey. Not only that but applying makeup on top is definitely going to clog your pores and we don’t want that.

2. Primer

If you know you are going to be wearing makeup, make sure you prime your face. Primer is going to help prep for makeup and keep your skin in place. If you have never used a primer before doing your makeup, this is going to be a game-changer. Here are 3 primers that work great for oily skin.

REVLON    E.L.F        LM

Note: If you apply any skincare products to your face let them dry about 30 minutes before applying any makeup.

3. Foundation

The key to making sure your makeup lasts longer and is oil-free is to make sure you choose the right foundation formula. Avoid using foundations that have oils instead look for foundations that are specifically for oily skin. Look for ingredients that list non-comedogenic, oil-free, and salicylic acid. Here are 3 foundations that work great for oily skin.

MAYBELLINE    NYX      NARS

4. Don’t forget to set the face

Setting your makeup is one of the most important steps in your makeup routine. Setting your face is going to help make sure your face stays matte throughout the day. Use a translucent powder to absorb any excess oil. Here are 2 translucent powders that I have personally used.

 MARY KAY     LAURA MERCIER

Applying a translucent powder is great and all but do you also use a setting spray? If your answer is no then you have been missing out! After you set your face with translucent powder make sure to use a setting spray to lock in your makeup.

So remember a translucent powder is going to absorb any excess oils while a setting spray is going to lock in your makeup and help it last longer.

5. On the Go

Last but not least is to carry with you oil absorbing sheets. These are a lifesaver!! They are going to remove any excess oil from your face without smudging your makeup. A similar product would be the Revlon on-the-go tool it is going to instantly eliminate excess oil from your face.
