I am the girl that isn’t afraid to try a new product on my face. In fact, it’s one of the things I enjoy doing. It’s also one of the things that my sisters appreciate, that way they don’t have to. Trying new products is how you find out if it’s right or not for you.
Finding makeup products that match our skin tone is hard enough but finding makeup that matches our skin tone and is meant for oily skin is even harder.
As someone who has oily skin, I know the struggle and I feel your pain girl. That’s why I am sharing with you a list of the best makeup for oily skin, tips, and much more!
This post is all about makeup for oily skin.
The three most important factors in making sure your makeup stays on all day and is oil-free are by using primer, foundation, and a setting product. If you use one of these you are in the right direction but if you use all three you are golden!
Primer
If you have oily skin, a primer should be your best friend. It’s the key factor in ensuring your face is oil-free all day. Seriously! A primer is going to help prep your skin for makeup and act as a base to help your makeup stay in place. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, vitamin C & E, and Salicylic acid. Salicylic acid is going to help blur large pores and give you a smooth base to apply your makeup. In comparison, hyaluronic acid is going to hydrate your skin. Here is a list of 3 tried and true primers for oily skin.
If you are looking for a good primer without breaking the bank this one is it. It is a matte poreless primer that is going to help make sure your face stays oil free. It is super soft on your skin and blends well with your foundation. Another great thing about it is that it’s budget-friendly.
- Easy to apply
- Cream formula
- Poreless finish
2. BOBBIE BROWN
This cream formula primer is going to hydrate and leave your skin feeling refreshed throughout the day. Furthermore, it’s going to help prep your skin for your foundation. It is lightweight on your skin for a smooth and even application.
- Thick formula but easy to apply
- Hydrates your skin with hyaluronic acid
- Blends well with makeup
3. MAKEUP FOREVER
An all-time favorite. This primer is a well know primer for its ability to control shine and give you that mattifying look. In addition, it’s going to help blur pores and give you a flawless look.
- Controls shine
- Mattifying base
- Helps achieve a flawless finish
- Long-lasting
- Best for oily skin
FOUNDATION
The next most important factor in making sure your face is oil-free is by choosing the right foundation. When choosing a foundation for oily skin you want to look for foundations that are oil-free, fragrance-free, and paraben free. To start off if you have oily skin you don’t want to use a foundation with oil because it can clog your pores or create more oil. You also want to stay away from fragrance and paraben products because they are harmful and can cause skin irritation. Here is a list of 3 tried and true foundations for oily skin. The first two are available at almost any drugstore and are more affordable than the third one on the list.
1. MAYBELLINE
This drugstore foundation is one of the best I have ever tried. It gives you a natural finish look and helps keep your face oil-free. It is also a lightweight foundation so it makes it easy to build up from a medium to full coverage look without your face looking cakey. In addition, it comes in 40 different shades to help you find the closest match to your skin tone.
- 40 shades
- Medium to full coverage
- Oil-free
- Affordable
One of the benefits of this foundation is that it is offered in 45 shades. Fantastic, I know! I personally use this foundation for special events like weddings, parties, etc. Being that it’s a full coverage foundation it’s going to help cover up any imperfections and leave your skin looking flawless.
- 45 shades
- Full coverage
- Long-lasting
- Non-comedogenic
3. NARS
This foundation is more expensive but remember that a little bit of foundation goes a long way. It is also long-lasting and oil-free (remember this is one of the ingredients to look for in a foundation). One thing to note is that even though it’s a full-coverage foundation, with this lightweight foundation you’ll hardly remember that you have any makeup on. If you aren’t a big fan of wearing a full coverage foundation because you feel like it’s going to be heavy, this one doesn’t feel like that. So don’t dismiss this one just yet until you have tried it, you just might end up loving it.
- 34 shades
- Matte
- Long-lasting
- Flawless coverage
- Oil-free
Setting Products
The last step is to make sure you set your makeup. You can either choose a powder or a liquid setting spray or both (preference). A setting powder helps absorb any excess oil and a setting spray is going to lock in your makeup. Overall using a setting product is going to help prevent your makeup from creasing and make your makeup last longer while keeping your face looking flawless.
If you don’t like liquid setting powder this is a great option to use. It is easy to blend in with your makeup and it’s going to help control your oily skin. Not to mention, this is a translucent powder and it comes in 4 different shades.
- Control shine
- Soft texture
- Lightweight
- Blends easily
2. Laura Mercier Setting Powder
If you are into makeup you know that this is a favorite in the beauty industry. This setting powder is expensive but it’s worth every penny. It is lightweight on your skin and blends in perfectly with your makeup without any harsh lines being visible.
- Absorbs oil
- Long-lasting
- 3 Shades
- Doesn’t feel heavy
- Blends in nicely
Hands down one of the best drugstore settings sprays. If you don’t want to spend too much money on a setting spray this is for you. E.L.F.’s Setting spray is designed to help keep your makeup in place all day while hydrating your skin with vitamins A, C, and E.
- Long-lasting
- Hydrates skin with Vitamin A, C, E
- Lightweight formula
- Affordable
4. M.A.C Setting Spray ( FIX+MATTE)
This is a go-to for me, I have been using it for years. It’s lightweight and dries up quickly. One of my favorite features is that it makes your skin look dewy without it looking oily. As well as, making sure it sets your makeup in place and keeps it looking matte all day.
- Lightweight mist
- Non-acnegenic
- Control shine and oil
- Reduces the appearance of pores
- Alcohol-free
TIPS
- Above all look for products that are labeled non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores)
- For any product that you are using choose the shade closest to your natural skin color to make it look more natural
