OMG is it me or does washing your hair after 4 days feel so refreshing? As much as I love washing my hair now I used to dread it. Long story short, too many steps & not enough time. If this sounds like you then keep on reading to find out the haircare routine that is so simple to keep up with and will have your hair looking flawless.
Besides sharing with you a hair care routine, I am sharing with you products you can use on your hair and the best tips to keep your hair healthy.
This post is all about hair care routine.
As I mentioned above establish a haircare routine that you will stick to. Sometimes when we add too many products and make it too demanding we only keep up with it for about a month and then we stop doing it.
Hair Wash Day
When washing your hair you should always use a shampoo & conditioner set, instead of the 2-in-1 product. A shampoo is going to help remove oils and product buildup while a conditioner is going to help smoothen and nourish your hair. Also when choosing a shampoo & conditioner make sure to base it on your hair type.
You want to wash your hair every 3-4 days depending on your physical activity. If you do any type of workout your hair tends to sweat more, so it gets dirtier and greasier faster. When washing your hair you want to use your fingertips and scrub thoroughly to remove all the dirt. Avoid using your nails as this can cause scalp irritation. Another option would be to use a shower brush. It is going to gently scrub your scalp without scratching or pulling your hair. In addition, it is going to make it easy to remove scalp build-up and evenly spread your shampoo & conditioner, leaving your hair clean and fresh.
Comb Hair
Combing your hair every day is necessary to distribute your scalp’s natural oils from your scalp to the ends. You want to comb your hair daily (morning & night), it doesn’t matter if you washed your hair or not. You also want to comb it to avoid it from getting tangled. The longer you go without brushing your hair the more tangled your hair gets especially if you have curly or wavy hair. To brush out or detangle your hair you want to use a wide-tooth comb like the detangler brush and comb set by Lily England. This set is great because it comes with a comb and a brush, it’s suitable for all hair types and can be used on wet or dry hair!
Styling Hair
If you decide you are going to use hot tools make sure to use a heat protectant to prevent your hair from getting damaged. Once you have styled your hair you want to apply a few drops of hair serum. Hair serum is going to help add shine, tame frizz, and flyaways and help with the overall health of your hair. You can apply it daily in the morning or night but I would recommend only applying it once a week. Also, keep note that for best results you should apply it on dry or towel-dried hair.
Hair protein
Adding hair protein to your hair care routine is necessary if your hair lacks protein. You want to add protein to your hair when your hair is lacking body texture, your hair feels sticky or you notice that there is an increase in breakage. I use protein on my hair once a month or depending on how bad my hair feels and looks. But it is recommended to use it every 4-6 weeks.
If you want to know more, you can go to this post here, where I talk about the benefits of adding protein to your hair. WARNING…if you have never used hair protein this is going to be a game-changer!!
Leave in conditioner
Like protein, you want to use a leave-in conditioner based on how much your hair needs it. The general rule for using a leave-in conditioner is once a week. If your hair has enough hydration and moisture you might want to skip out on it. However, if your hair needs moisture use a leave-in conditioner after you wash your hair. Remember to apply your leave-in conditioner after you get out of the shower and when your hair is damped. When you apply your leave-in conditioner while in the shower, it gets rinsed out and it runs through your back. This is bad for two reasons. One, your hair isn’t absorbing the product and two it can cause backne.
My current favorite leave-in conditioner is Curlsmith Weightless Air Dry Cream. It leaves your hair feeling soft and shiny. In addition, it enhances your natural hair type. I have wavy hair and I can definitely say that ever since I started using this product it has helped my hair look better and enhance my natural waves.
Massage your hair
If you have never used a scalp massager after reading the benefits you’ll want to make sure to incorporate it into your hair care routine. Massaging your hair once a week is beneficial for so many reasons. According to studies massaging your hair is going to help increase blood flow, can help produce thicker hair and as a result, promote hair growth. On the plus side, it’s also relaxing! You can always use your fingertips to massage your hair or use a scalp massager brush. Again, not only is it going to benefit your hair but it’s also going to help relieve stress and help you relax.
