Oily skin occurs for various reasons including hormonal changes, genetics, or excessive oil (also known as sebum). Stress is also another reason for having oily skin, it can actually trigger your hormones to rise, leading to acne and clogged pores.
If this sounds like you, stay calm and take a breather. When you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed take 10 minutes of your day and step away from whatever you’re doing. In return, you’ll come back fresh and your mind and body will thank you for it.
Whatever the case might be for your oily skin, I am going to share with you the best tips you can try to make sure your skin is oil-free.
This post is all about oily skin care tips.
1. Always wash your face
The simplest and easiest thing you can do to help your face stay oil-free is by making sure you wash your face twice a day (day and night). You’ll want to use a cleanser that is going to help your skin type. Avoid using hand soap or body soap, they are not ideal to use on your face. Also, if you have oily skin you are prone to having acne so using the wrong products can be harmful to your skin.
2. Use a toner once a week
Toner is another product you’ll want to keep handy. Before using toners I thought it was going to burn and make my face turn red. If I’m being completely honest I was terrified. However, once you do your research and after a couple of uses, it’s not that terrifying.
Before using a toner make sure you wash your face and hands. You’re cleaning your face so you want to make sure your hands are also clean otherwise it defeats the purpose. Using toner at least once a week is going to help keep your face clean, and hydrated and help remove any impurities from your face.
3. Use a moisturizer
OMG! Raise your hand if you have oily skin and you think using moisturizer is going to make your face oiler. 🙋🏻♀️ Girl, you are not alone, I used to think the same thing! I avoided adding anything to my face to make sure my face stayed dried and oil-free and believe me that only made it worse. A moisturizer is needed no matter what type of skin you have. Make sure you use a moisturizer that suits your skin type.
Using a moisturizer is a MUST to keep your skin looking hydrated and rejuvenated.
4. Keep blotting papers handy
Taking a picture and your face is all oily? Always have blotting papers when you go out. Trust me on this one, they are going to be a lifesaver. There is nothing more frustrating than taking a picture and having an oily face. Blotting papers are super affordable, easy to use, and fit just about anywhere. This is going to be a game changer if you have never used them before.
5. Avoid touching your face
If picking a scab or touching your face is something you have a tendency of doing you might reconsider after reading the next sentence. Your hands touch everything (literally) and the moment you touch your face you’re spreading those germs onto your face. Only touch your face when your hands are clean or when you’re dealing with your face( like doing a face mask, cleansing, etc.)
The skin on your face is the most delicate part of your body, so in order to keep it clean and free, you need to make sure to avoid touching it.
6. Follow a step-by-step skincare routine
If you don’t already have a step-by-step- skincare routine you need to start one today. You can check out this post on the blog called BEST OILY SKIN CARE ROUTINE, where I share with you what to do from one stage to the next. Having a skincare routine is essential in making sure your skin stays glowy, clean, and hydrated. Make sure your skincare routine is simple and manageable to where you will actually keep up with it. If you make it too complicated chances are you not going to go through with it.
7. Avoid sleeping with makeup
Not removing your makeup before going to sleep is a big MISTAKE. Sleeping with makeup is bad for anyone not just if you have oily skin. It can clog your pores or make your face oiler. Not only is it bad for your face but also for your eyes. If you sleep with mascara or eyeshadow, it can cause your eyes dryness, irritation, and in some cases infection.
8. Read labels on skincare products
Reading the labels on any skincare product before purchasing them is the way to go! It‘s the easiest way to figure out whether it’s the right product for you. If you have oily skin some of the ingredients to look for in products are non-comedogenic, hyaluronic acid, and salicylic acid. They are all commonly used in products for oily skin and are going to help your oily skin.
Anytime I am buying a new skincare product I make sure to do my research, to make sure I am applying products with ingredients that are going to benefit my skin and not irritate or harm my skin. You will see me in the aisles of a drugstore or beauty department on my phone researching the ingredients listed on the product.
Make sure you ALWAYS do your research!
